Visualization is a practice used in scuba diving, for example: it's used in cave diving, wreck and photography.
This practice is also used by athletes as a resource for stressful situations.
Breathing is part of the visualization process. And practicing Yoga will help you to master it. So today's newsletter subject is Yoga.
Yoga is a system that works with body and mind, it has some principles but, the most important is treat yourself with non violence. In a fundamental level at any exercise you should have a balance between effort and relaxation. Too much effort will create stress on your nerve system but without effort you'll not grow, so balance Is the key.
As in any activity, it's better to start with basic movement and some breathing observation. I like how Tim (a Yoga teacher) explains the basics.
Once you feel confident doing those exercises you may advance; in any case, I always get back to Tim to check if I'm doing my poses correctly.
It's a good practice to begin with 15 minutes of movement and mobility exercises, then continue with a full yoga practice for 35 minutes or so.
Yoga has a lot of pushing but not pulling, so try to incorporate pulling exercises at the beginning during the mobility part, like calisthenics.
Try to master the basic poses and do a lot of core exercises, remember that any pose starts with the core.
I practice yoga every day, helps me to maintain my body and my mind in this lockdown situation.
Thoughts of the day:
What ever decision you're about to do, you should ask if it nourishes you or deprives you, whether it makes you mobile or hems you in, whether it enhances self-respect or diminishes it, and whether it enables you to participate in your community or prevent you from doing so.
My best,
Carlos
