Why nobody teaches mobility in scuba?
As divers we tend to handle around a lot of equipment and, swim large distances underwater, plus need to handle situations like maneuvering the manifold or valves. People tend to think that what they needs is a lot of muscles, but divers forget about mobility.
Joint Mobility refers to as the degree to which an articulation can move before being restricted by other tissues, otherwise known as the range of motion. Also, joint stability is defined as the ability to control the movement.
Mobility is different from flexibility, mobility is able control your joints into a range of motions; actively controlling, which means less injuries when we do exercises or contour the body while diving.
There are few exercises that we can do, from animalistic movement to yoga's movement. In any case those exercises must be done with an objective. Hip, shoulders, neck, thoracic, knee and ankle all these parts should be able to move without pain or too many restrictions while diving.
In my next post (on the new site) I'll address which exercises can be done and other sources of information. So, you can implement your own “set” of movement at home or at the gym.
Hope you are well and safe,
Carlos
Does anyone seen the value of this? Do you think you'll get better performance swimming?
